Probate and Trust Administration: Following the death of a family member, we help clients:
- Assess whether Probate is necessary;
- If Probate is necessary, we prepare and file papers with the probate court to get a personal representative (executor) appointed:
- Advise and assist the personal representative in administering the estate, including paying debts, selling property and distributing the estate;
- Assist if there is real estate in other states;
- Assist with probate needs if a deceased out of state resident owned property in Maine;
- Advise and assist trustees in the administration of a trust;
- If Probate is not necessary, we assist with designated beneficiaries with questions about filing life insurance claims, disposing of assets, filing beneficiary claims for life insurance, annuities and retirement or pension plans.
